Beschrijving Serie "Javanen in Australië" [zijn waarschijnlijk Sumatranen, red.] Zes mannen uit Nederlands-Indië die werken in munitiefabrieken in Melbourne wandelen tijdens hun vrije tijd in westers colbert en kleurrijke oosterse sarongs. Deze zes (afkomstig uit Medan, en tijdens de Japanse inval op weg naar Bandoeng) wisten met vrouwen en kinderen Australië te bereiken. Dominee J.T. Freeman van de Port Melbourne Methodist Church bracht hen onder in een Zondagsschool

After the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies, a group of Javanese men, women and children who had been living in Sumatra were returning to Java, but were forced to sail to Australia, arriving in Port Melbourne via Fremantle in April 1942. These images were published in an article in Pix magazine on 6 June 1942 (Vol. 9, no. 23).
