Description from source
Full title: Post-war diary of German migrant Guenter Grunow : manuscripts, printed, photographs, 1951-1990.
6 cm.

A bound diary of Guenter Grunow, written in German, 113 pages in blue ink, covering from December 1951 to April 1953. Guenter Grunow left Bremen, Germany, on 4 January 1952, on the "MS Nelly", and arrived in Melbourne on 9 February 1952. The migrant ship MS Nelly carried German migrants under the bilateral German-Australia assisted passage scheme, enabling migrants to work as directed for the Commonwealth of Australia for two years, in exchange for a heavily reduced fare. Grunow was 21 when he arrived. The diary discusses his day-to-day life in Germany, and life in Australia after arrival. Also included are Valentine's snapshots of Bendigo, (published by The Valentine Publishing Co., probably in 1950); newspaper cutting of an article "Leaving Nelly"; and a selection of 81 German postcards, addressed to migrants Benno and Beverley Gotzky in Melbourne, 1956-1990.
