Copy of typescript entitled A short stretch of my life, to my jubilee, by George Heyer, [c. 1920].
Diary contains an account of a visit to the New Hebrides, 1899. Heyer sailed from Melbourne on 26 March and visited Sydney, Newcastle, Noumea and Aneityum, reaching Lenakel on the island of Tana on 21 April. Apart from the voyage, there are references to missionaries, including Frank Paton and William Gunn, church services, social events, the illness of Clara Paton, landscape, climate and insects. Heyer left Lenakel on 13 May and returned to Sydney via Aneityum, Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island. The diary is in one volume and is accompanied by two volumes of translation.
