Description from source
-
This series consists of 3 small notebooks, 2 small notebooks that have been used for accounting purposes and one ship's log.
The 3 small notebooks are entirely in Chinese and no interpretation is available. There is a label on the front of one that gives the date in arabic numerals of 1920, then 29.2.20 and No 7.or No 1 (it is not clear).
The two accounting books are the same size and type as formerly described with the same type of label on the front and a date of 1.3.20 and again No 7 or 1. Only the first few months' transactions are recorded.
The ship's log may be for a vessel called "Heicu" but without a Chinese interpreter this cannot be stated with any certainty. It is not even certain if the date is correct as the only number after the year character is a 5. Some previous research led this to be interpreted as 1915. However the 13th February is correct for the commencement of entries. The last entry is for 29 May. All that is recorded is the technical details of the voyage such as distances, winds, temperature, weather etc. Printed headings for the columns are in English as well as Chinese. However there is no entry in a remarks column that is other than Chinese.
