These watercolours and woodcut were created by Dunera internee Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack whilst interned in Hay, Orange and Tatura internment camps during the Second World War, or after his release. Hirschfeld-Mack had studied and taught at the Weimar Bauhaus school.

Administrative / Biographical history
Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack (1893–1965) was an internee on the HMT Dunera and a founding member of the Bauhaus, and art master at Geelong Grammar School from 1942 to 1957. Hirschfeld-Mack was one the most well-known artists to arrive on the Dunera. During his internment Hirschfeld-Mack taught drawing classes in the camp university.
