Correspondence, miscellaneous files and five sound recordings on magnetic tape. John Alexander Portman arrived in Australia in 1955 on the SS Oronsay. He worked on Aboriginal missions in Western Australia and was also employed as a draftsman in Perth and as consulting engineer in Kalgoorlie. He also produced a collection of photographs.
