Included with these papers are letters from fellow Jewish German internees who were deported to Australia in 1940 as 'enemy aliens' and survived the holocaust in Europe, through which some of their stories can be revealed.
The collection includes a signficant amount of correspondence from friends, family, employers and other academics; copies of Rechnitz's translations of various papers into Torres Strait languages; published and unpublished papers by Rechnitz, papers related to Rechnitz's work; miscellaneous articles; photographs and negatives; audiotapes, LPs and a tape recorder.
